Bhutan opened its doors to tourism only a few decades back after remaining in self-imposed isolation for many years. Bhutan welcomed its first tourists of 300 visitors as late as in 1974. Since then tourist arrivals have been progressively increasing with about 250,000 tourists traveling to Bhutan in 2017, which is about one-third of the population of Bhutan.

- ✔ The Bhutanese tour operator should be registered with the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB).
